A new promotion of candidates to the positions of judge and prosecutor has graduated the National Institute of Justice

The graduation ceremony of a new promotion of future judges and prosecutors took place today, April 29, 2024, at the premises of the National Institute of Justice. After 18 months of studies, the 10 candidates to the position of judge and 15 candidates to the position of prosecutor have received their graduation certificates. At the solemn ceremony, which began with the honor of the National Anthem of the Republic of Moldova, attended representatives of the key institutions of the legal system, members of the Graduation Commission, trainers and NIJ employees.

Addressing to young graduates, NIJ ad Interim Director Adrian Cerbu, underlined the commitment of the National Institute of Justice to provide quality judicial training with a focus on developing the skills and competences needed for the chosen profession: „From mock trials processes and internships, to participation in various competitions and information visits, each experience has contributed to your training as legal professionals. Today is the beginning of a new phase in your life. You are called to become part of our judicial system, to apply the acquired knowledge and to exercise your roles as judges and prosecutors with integrity and dedication. Through your responsibility and dedication, you will contribute to the promotion of justice, equality and respect for human rights – fundamental principles to a state that tends to be a member of the EU family”.

During the event, congratulatory messages and professional guidance came from: Veronica Mihailov-Moraru, Minister of Justice, Stela Procopciuc, Interim President of the Supreme Court of Justice, Ion Munteanu, Interim General Prosecutor, Diana Rotundu, President of the NIJ Council, Dumitru Obada, President of the Superior Council of Prosecutors, Sergiu Caraman, Interim President of the Superior Council of Magistracy, and Oleg Girbu, President of the Commission for the graduation exams. Graduates Ecaterina Soroceanu, candidate to the position of judge, and Doina-Cezara Galan, candidate to the position of prosecutor, expressed their gratitude for the transfer of knowledge and the effort made by the trainers and the NIJ team in their professional training.

The ceremony culminated in the handing of graduation certificates. Also, diplomas with mentions of the Leader of the XVI-th promotion received Ecaterina Soroceanu and Nelea Postu, candidates to the position of judge, and Doina-Cezara Galan, candidate to the position of prosecutor; diplomas of merit, in recognition of the outstanding performances obtained during the initial training course – Elena Fortuna and Constantin Cogalniceanu, candidates to the position of judge, Valentin Lungu and Sergiu Colesnic, candidates to the position of prosecutor; diplomas of merit for special organizational spirit in the activity of leader of the group – Doina-Cezara Galan, candidate to the position of prosecutor,  and Ecaterina Soroceanu, candidate to the position of judge.

Since its founding till now, NIJ has offered to justice system 16 graduate promotions, which included 237 candidates to the position of judge and 336 – to the position of prosecutor. The initial training lasts 18 months and is carried out in three semesters: first semester – training of professional skills specific to the criminal investigation phase (candidates to the position of prosecutor)/training of professional skills when examining civil cases (candidates to the position of judge); semester II – training of professional skills on pretrial phase/training of professional skills in the examination of criminal cases based on mock trials on concrete categories of criminal cases; semester III – internship in courts, prosecutor's offices and criminal investigating bodies.
